Swansea, Southampton begin season with scoreless draw
Southampton and Swansea started their seasons with an entertaining 0-0 draw on Saturday, though it proved a heavily one-sided affair.
From the off, Southampton were the side on top, but their inability to put the ball in the net on home soil carries on from last season. It's now six games at St Mary's in which the hosts have failed to find the onion bag.
They nearly got off to the perfect start as Ryan Bertrand picked out Dusan Tadic on the edge of the six-yard box, but the Serb could only prod wide when he should've done better.
Paul Clement's side defended resiliently at times, though it was more the hosts' lack of quality finishing which kept this game devoid of any goals.
Abraham had Swansea's main chance of the second half after 30 seconds when he produced an exquisite turn before seeing a shot blocked by Steven Davis.
Southampton nearly won it late on when Maya Yoshida's free kick struck the side netting before sub Charlie Austin did the same after a good run moments later.
