Analysis: Scherzer had his attempt at a third career no-hitter broken up by backup catcher A.J. Ellis, who hit a comebacker for an infield single with one out in the eighth inning. He reached double figures in strikeouts for the sixth game in a row, the team's longest such streak since the franchise moved to Washington for the 2005 season. Scherzer's ERA is the best in the NL, and he also leads the league with 145 strikeouts.

Analysis: Scherzer needed only 100 pitches to throw his first complete game of the season and seventh of his career. He came within one out of having one five days earlier against the Padres. The ace was terrific in 43 2/3 innings during May with 60 strikeouts and nine walks, going 3-1 with a 2.27 ERA.
|May 26 6:53 PM PT7:53 PM MT8:53 PM CT9:53 PM ET21:53 ET1:53 GMT9:53 6:53 PM MST8:53 PM EST9:23 PM VEN5:53 UAE (+1)8:53 PM CT-Max Scherzer improved to 5-3, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 8.2 innings, as the Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres 5-1 on Friday. Analysis: Scherzer had been on a three-start winless streak, though the Nationals' bullpen coughed up a late lead in two of those outings. The Washington ace has been mostly excellent this month, posting a 2.60 ERA in five May starts while racking up 49 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings.
|May 20 8:09 PM PT9:09 PM MT10:09 PM CT11:09 PM ET23:09 ET3:09 GMT11:09 8:09 PM MST10:09 PM EST10:39 PM VEN7:09 UAE (+1)10:09 PM CT-Max Scherzer fell to 4-3, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks in 5.0 innings, as the Washington Nationals lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-2 on Saturday. Scherzer struck out six, ending the game with a 3.02 ERA and 0.99 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Scherzer was hurt by shaky control and a pair of homers in his shortest outing of the season, which extended his winless streak to three starts. He's still put up solid numbers during the drought, having recorded a 3.79 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP and 25 strikeouts.
|May 15 6:47 AM PT7:47 AM MT8:47 AM CT9:47 AM ET9:47 ET13:47 GMT21:47 6:47 AM MST8:47 AM EST9:17 AM VEN17:47 UAE8:47 AM CT-Max Scherzer allowed three runs on nine hits in 6.0 innings as the Washington Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 on Sunday. Analysis: Scherzer was drilled in his left knee by Michael Saunders' shot in the fourth inning and went tumbling. He eventually got to his feet, threw three warmup pitches and gave a thumbs-up sign, sending manager Dusty Baker back to the dugout.

Analysis: Scherzer's first two home runs surrendered this season raised his overall ERA to 1.95, but he's now opened the follow-up to last year's Cy Young campaign with four consecutive quality starts. The Washington ace has struck out at least seven in all four outings as well.

|Apr. 12 6:46 PM PT7:46 PM MT8:46 PM CT9:46 PM ET21:46 ET1:46 GMT9:46 6:46 PM MST8:46 PM EST9:16 PM VEN5:46 UAE (+1)8:46 PM CT-Scherzer (1-1) allowed three runs (one earned) and four hits with 10 strikeouts in six innings in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Cardinals.

He left with a six-run lead, but the relievers allowed four runs, a day after giving up leads in the eighth and ninth innings in a 4-3 loss to Miami in 10 innings.
Analysis: Scherzer, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, waited until the fourth game to take the mound because a broken knuckle set him back in spring training.
|Mar. 27 3:39 PM PT4:39 PM MT5:39 PM CT6:39 PM ET18:39 ET22:39 GMT6:39 3:39 PM MST5:39 PM EST6:09 PM VEN2:39 UAE (+1)5:39 PM CT-Scherzer threw five scoreless innings Monday, allowing two hits while striking out seven.

|Feb. 16 2:14 PM PT3:14 PM MT4:14 PM CT5:14 PM ET17:14 ET22:14 GMT6:14 3:14 PM MST5:14 PM EST5:44 PM VEN2:14 UAE (+1)4:14 PM CT-Saying his finger finally feels normal, Scherzer proclaimed himself healed following his first Grapefruit League start Wednesday.
Analysis: A stress fracture in the knuckle of the ring finger on his pitching hand slowed Scherzer's development this spring and caused him to grip his fastball with the middle three fingers on to instead of the usual index and middle fingers as a means to avoid pain. Scherzer will make two more starts before the regular season begins, but the NL Cy Young award winner won't be the opening day starter. "Right now we've kind of got Max slated as the No. 3 starter," Dusty Baker said.
